Plug-ins

We have worked hard to create a framework that will allow you to enhance your Virtual Pet Rock experience and even allow you to make your own plug-ins.

Plug-ins were not a part of the first release of Virtual Pet Rock, but are in the new version (1.1). With plug-ins you are able to layer small pictures on top of your rock to give the appearance of moss, lichen or whatever growing on top of your rock.
Heck, you can even add elements like a beachball or a rubber ducky if you're so inclined. All that is needed is a grasp of some basic image-editing, the ability to save files in tiff format with an alpha channel and putting some basic positional information in a small textfile (xml).

You can download the Plug-in Development kit here (SDK version 1.1a, 1.7 MB).

We will also gladly host downloads or link to all plug-ins we think would be appreciated by the Virtual Pet Rock community. Just give us a shout.

A good place to find quality pictures of mosses and lichens is the Hidden Forest website. It's where we got most of our nature plug-ins.
